AHURI Scoping the costs and benefits of affordable housing in the ACT: Stage 1 report
In 2020, ACT Shelter commissioned the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute to investigate whether providing direct access to planned, sustainable long-term housing options for Canberrans experiencing homelessness and housing crisis in the ACT is a more cost-effective strategy for Government than relying on crisis responses.
The first stage of the research summarised current and future housing need in the ACT, the effective procurement of social housing, the known pipeline of supply and the economic and social benefits of investment in affordable and social housing supply.
The second stage of the client engagement with AHURI will involve the development of a business case for investment in social and affordable housing.
