Membership

Apply to become a member of ACT Shelter now!

ACT Shelter has both organisational members and individual members. Organisational members include specific-interest peak non-profit non-government bodies, non-profit housing providers, and non-government welfare agencies including homeless service providers. Individuals are people who are interested in improving housing justice – some of these are tenants of social or community housing.

There are two categories of membership:

  • Individual membership is open to individuals of any age;
  • Organisational membership is open to organisations such as associations, cooperatives and institutions (payment is staggered, based on the size of the organisation).

National Shelter Membership

National Shelter is the peak national body advocating on affordable housing matters. National Shelter’s members are each State/Territory Shelter. The National Shelter Board is made up of EOs of each Shelter, and a representative of allied national peak bodies – the Community Housing Federation of Australia, National Association for Tenants’ Organisations and Homelessness Australia.

Being part of this national network is important because national reforms through the National Affordable Housing Agreement and the Homelessness National Partnership are driving much of the recent change in ACT housing. Our involvement in a national network also means our members are able to engage in national debates and action and receive current information on housing matters.
